Bio

P.I.D. ( aka Preachers in Disguise) is a CHH (Christian Hip Hop) band formed in 1986, considered one of the founding fathers of the holy hip hop scene in the United States. The name Preachers in Disguise was born from the concept of using rap music as a communication device to share the gospel as “Holy Ghost Preachers in rapping disguise” (a verse from song “Don’t Bow” on their 1988 debut album “Here We Are”). The members of the group are Fred Lynch from Dallas, TX founding member of the group; Jonathan Johnson aka King Solomon Jay from Pittsburgh, PA and Richard Martin aka Ace One The MC from the Bronx, NY.

Ordained ministers as well as accomplished performers all three members of this legendary group take the creative expression of the gospel most seriously as a vetted lifestyle being the elder-statesmen of CHH culture.

So why the “come back” for P.I.D.? Ace One The MC shares, “We were asked to return on the scene to co-produce a documentary called Mic Drop: The Culture of Christian Hip Hop about the true beginnings of CHH and it morphed into an opportunity for us coming together and we realized that so much of what we loved about the music and ministry was still burning within us. As we began to perform together again after 35 years, we were surprisingly pursued by Holy Culture Records to come back to the music scene and share this gift on a world wide platform! So creatively and authentically as seasoned artists, we look to show and prove longevity as well as give back into the ministry portion of CHH.”

1. (2024) FAVOR

P.I.D.’s new single “FAVOR” is a slated to release March 29th 2024. “Favor” is a Choir meets Modern Boom-Bap Pop song. It describes the true nature of God’s favor which is the redemption of Mankind. Favor is better felt than told, better experienced than expounded upon. P.I.D. uses lyrical skill, storytelling and exhortation to drive the message home. Favor favor favor all on us!

2. Take 'Em To Church (2023)

P.I.D.’s Return single “Take ‘Em To Church” is a modern boom bap anthem with a mixture of grinding organs, driving bass and screaming trumpet blasts to announce the return of the legendary pioneers of Christian Hip Hop: P.I.D. aka Preachas in Disguise! Booming beats, precise cuts and scratches, along with classic rhyme flow all tuned to encourage believers to answer the call of the Lord of the Harvest and “Teach the street blocks to seek God even if it seems odd.”

3. Ride The Noize (1993)

It’s no secret that P.I.D.’s style was deeply influenced by the East Coast. 1993 P.I.D. came back with what many called their greatest album “Violent Playgrounds” and introduced to the world a fiery master of the microphone from the Bronx by the name of Ace One The MC. P.I.D.’s single “Ride The Noize” was a classic boom bap anthem designed to catch heads with “Beats, Baselines and Rhymes”. The formula was simple and it still slaps today!

4. Born w/ The Gift (1992)

1992 brought a new member to the Preachers…a ruff’ neck Preacha by the name of King Solomon Jay. “Born with the Gift” was the title track from their new album that introduced Jay to the world. Filled with Parlament/Funkadelic flavor & classic rhyme-flow both Fred Lynch and King Solomon Jay express what they called the “John 3:16 Factor”.

5. Grace (1991)

As Hip Hop continued to evolve P.I.D. continued their mission to glorify God through rhythm and rhyme and stay true to the artform. The 90’s brought in an era of funky beats and irrestable hooks which inspired P.I.D. to release “Grace”. Fully armed with a Zapp/Roger loop built for the dance floor “Grace” is a club theme that reminds the listener of God’s amazing gift to all mankind.

6. Don't Bow (1988)

It’s 1988, the GOLDEN year of Hip Hop and P.I.D. enters the areana as one of the first Christian Rap Groups to reach the Nation! Pure Old School Gold with a conviction to the truth of full commitment, P.I.D.’s debuit album paved the way for the rich landscape of CHH that we have today.
